Social Welfare department wins praise

The Social Welfare department is delighted to be highly rated once again in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners 2018 independent legal directories.

In the Legal 500, our housing team is ranked in Tier 2 and we are noted to be a ‘strong and experienced team that is very strong in community care and housing/social housing-related administrative and public law’. The Legal 500 also acknowledges our particular expertise in representing vulnerable individuals.

Joint head of department Katie Brown is described as a ‘bright and dedicated solicitor who punches far above her weight and has a well-deserved reputation for excellence', while senior solicitor Amanda Ford is 'exceptional at anticipating issues before they arise'. Jenny Mansell and David Araya are also recommended for their housing work.

Community care solicitor Monica Kreel earns particular recognition for her work in ‘managing a heavy caseload including complex cases in relation to safeguarding vulnerable adults and human rights breaches’, including her specialism in Court of Protection cases and her 'enormously helpful knowledge of matters of mental capacity’ which she brings to judicial reviews.

In Chambers and Partners, our housing work is ranked in Band 2. Katie Brown is recognised as a notable practitioner, including for her work representing vulnerable clients who lack litigation capacity. She is ranked alongside our joint head of department Jacky Starling, described as "highly regarded and really experienced"  and partner Jenny Hunt, who is noted to be "a well-known and well-regarded person in the area"

Jacky Starling, joint head of department and Senior Partner, says: “I am obviously extremely proud of the individuals mentioned in the directories, as well as of the whole team who provide such tremendous support. Everyone is motivated by a deep sense of justice, trying to obtain the best results possible for our clients, in very difficult times.”
