Areas of Specialism

Carys specialises in serious crime, but continues to run a varied practice. She has particular experience in defending sexual crime, and has acted in a number of cases of historic sexual offences.  Defending such cases, especially where allegations have been made many years after the offending is said to have occurred, presents particular challenges and requires a creative and innovative approach.

Carys also has significant experience of cases involving mentally disordered defendants and in exploring capacity, fitness to plead, and special measures, the use of intermediaries etc.  She works with medical professionals and other mental health agencies, both to secure the best possible outcome in any criminal case and to try to seek more long term support for clients caught up in the cycle of offending.

Carys is thorough, resourceful and imaginative in her approach to cases, exploring all the angles but with an ability to cut through to the crux of a case.  She has extensive experience of instructing experts in a wide variety of specialisms, from ballistics to blood splatter, glass fragmentation to DNA, facial mapping  to gait analysis.

Carys is a Higher Rights Advocate and a Duty Solicitor.
