He is a past President of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors, a Member of the Board of Justice and the Editorial Board of the Criminal Law Review. He has been appointed to the Sentencing Council under the chairmanship of the Lord Chief Justice. He is the author of &#8220;Advising a Suspect in the Police Station&#8221; (Sweet and Maxwell) and (with Roger Ede) &#8220;Criminal Defence: a Guide to Good Practice&#8221; (Law Society). He writes and lectures widely to Practitioners, Justices, Legal Advisors, courses and contracts with the Legal Services Commission and Police Officers on police investigation, conduct of prosecutions from the perspective of defence solicitors.</td>

Carolyn regularly trains practitioners and non-lawyers in mental health and criminal law. Her Higher Court cases include R v Hickey no. 1 and 2 (1995) and R v SSHD exp MH (2000).
