Management Consultancy

T V Edwards LLP are asked regularly to offer management consultancy and hands on assistance, both on an emergency and on ongoing basis, to law firms in relation to: systems, gearing, productivity and targets, departmental structure, outsourcing opportunities and other operational efficiencies. Working with firms nationally, leading them to work profitably. We can, having provided our report, deliver you a bespoke operating system. To help you prepare for peer review we can conduct mock audits as well as provide you with monthly external supervision of files.

Training

From our training suite or at your premises, our courses meet the needs of both the profession and non lawyers. Choose from either our current range of courses or we can develop a course to meet your specific needs. Courses are designed to allow delegates to benefit from small group sessions and discussions in an informal environment. Our CPD accredited courses are run by specialist practitioners in crime, family, mental health, community care and housing. They cover management, costs awareness and quality assurance as well as legal updates. Our dedicated training facilities with lecture technology are available for hire.

All our Trainers are practicing solicitors and specialists in their individual fields.

	Alison Leivesley — Admitted 1997 Partner — Head of Training Department Alison specialises in all aspects of the law relating to children. She has a particular interest in cases concerning domestic violence. She is a member of the Law Society’s Advanced Family Law Panel member. She is Resolution Accredited Specialist in domestic violence and private children law. Alison is also a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children and NAGALRO. Alison regularly undertakes training for practitioner’s, advice agencies and the police. Alison is the current Chair of Tower Hamlets Women’s Aid.
	Jenny Beck — Admitted 1994 Managing Partner — Head of Family Department Jenny specialises in complex care cases. She is an Advanced Family Law Panel Member. She is a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children, a Resolution accredited specialist and trainer and a member of NAGALRO. She trains widely in all areas of family law. Jenny was voted Legal Aid Family Lawyer of the Year 2006 in recognition of service to her clients. She provides training and consultancy to the profession in respect of family law and law firm management
	Anthony Edwards — Admitted 1974 Senior Partner Anthony is a duty solicitor and a supervisor under the specialist fraud arrangement. He is a past President of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors, a Member of the Board of Justice and the Editorial Board of the Criminal Law Review. He has been appointed to the Sentencing Council under the chairmanship of the Lord Chief Justice. He is the author of “Advising a Suspect in the Police Station” (Sweet and Maxwell) and (with Roger Ede) “Criminal Defence: a Guide to Good Practice” (Law Society). He writes and lectures widely to Practitioners, Justices, Legal Advisors, courses and contracts with the Legal Services Commission and Police Officers on police investigation, conduct of prosecutions from the perspective of defence solicitors.
	Carolyn Taylor Admitted 1983 Carolyn specialises in representing mentally disordered offenders. She is an accredited police station representative, duty solicitor and has Higher Rights of Audience. She is an experienced advocate and conducts hearings in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. She is co-author of ‘Advising Mentally Disordered offenders – A practical guide’ (The Law Society). She lectures widely on criminal and mental health law.

CONSULTANT

Carolyn Taylor – admitted 1983

Carolyn is the Head of Mental Health Department and she specialises in all aspects of law relating to mental health. She is a member of The Law Society’s Mental Health Panel and the Mental Health Lawyer’s Association. She is co-author of ‘Advising Mentally Disordered Offenders – a practical guide’ (The Law Society). Carolyn has sat as a Mental Health Review Tribunal Judge since 1995 and is an Appraiser for the Tribunal. She was nominated for Legal Aid Mental Health Lawyer of the Year in 2005. Carolyn regularly trains practitioners and non-lawyers in mental health and criminal law. Her Higher Court cases include R v Hickey no. 1 and 2 (1995) and R v SSHD exp MH (2000). She has civil Higher Rights of Audience.

Claire Dissington – admitted 2006

Claire was trained by Carolyn Taylor and her practice covers a wide range of cases including representation at Mental Health Review Tribunals, Managers’ Hearings and advice on mental health law. She is also a criminal lawyer.
