Emma specialises in cases concerning children, particularly public law proceedings including applications for Care, Supervision, Emergency Protection, and Special Guardianship Orders. Emma has experience of representing parents and other relatives in care proceedings where there are concerns regarding drug or alcohol misuse, mental health problems and allegations of domestic abuse.
Emma also assists with child protection matters when a children’s services department is involved with a family prior to any court proceedings being issued, including attending Public Law outline/ pre-proceedings meetings.
Emma regularly advises parents where there is a dispute regarding the living or contact arrangements of children. She regularly represents parents within private law children proceedings including Child Arrangements, Parental Responsibility and Prohibited Steps and Specific Issue Orders.
Emma acts in domestic abuse cases, representing both applicants and respondents in non molestation order and occupation order proceedings. Emma also has experience of acting in cases involving issues of female genital mutilation (FGM)
